In The Ring Two, Rachel must delve into the history of Samara Morgan after her son becomes sick with an unknown ailment.In The Ring, Rachel Keller as an investigative reporter is contacted by her sister Ruth to find out the mysterious circumstances surrounding Katie's death. She informs Rachel that she discovered her daughter's disfigured corpse in the closet, and that her official cause of death was a heart attack, despite Katie being an incredibly healthy teenager. Katie's friends inform Rachel about the legend that surrounds the tape that was cursed and how Katie's friend Becca was confined to an institution following Katie's demise. She also discovers that Katie's boyfriend and two of her buddies suffered fatal accidents the same night at 10 pm. Rachel goes to Shelter Mountain Inn, where she stays in Cabin 12. This cabin is the one Katie and her friends stayed in when they saw the cursed tape. Rachel discovers the tape and once it's done it calls. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is able to call Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend and a video analyst to seek assistance. Rachel learns later that Aidan, Noah's son, watched the tape, as Noah called her. He tells Rachel that he believes Rachel. Rachel investigates the lighthouse on the tape and discovers it was located in Moesko Island, the home of a horse breeder who was ill-fated named Anna Morgan, who appeared on the videotape with the curse. Rachel uncovers that Anna was the mother of an adoptive daughter named Samara. Samara was capable of creating disturbing images within the minds of humans, animals and other objects. Rachel is introduced to Anna's widower Richard. Richard demands Rachel go away as soon as she begins asking questions regarding Samara.
